Backup & recovery

Protect the collection before a problem occurs, and use FossilCore's recovery tools deliberately when a record or environment needs repair.

Collection backups

Use FossilCore's Collection backup workflow to create a recoverable snapshot of a collection and its managed structure. Back up before large imports, path migrations, bulk edits or other consequential changes.

Record recovery

FossilCore includes record-version and Recovery Center tooling intended to recover from damaged or accidentally changed records. Use recovery when the current record is no longer trustworthy rather than manually reconstructing the JSON unless necessary.

Validate before replacing

  1. Identify the correct active Collection.
  2. Confirm the backup or recovery point you intend to use.
  3. Validate the source if the tool provides validation.
  4. Keep the existing material until the restored Collection is verified.
  5. Open representative specimens, images and Sites after restore.
  6. Create a fresh known-good backup once recovery is confirmed.

Institutional environment backup

The Institutional edition adds complete environment backup and restore for organization-managed shared configuration and security context in addition to collection-level protection.

Do not treat automatic repair as a substitute for backup. If a record or collection file is corrupted, preserve a copy of the damaged material when practical before recovery so the cause can be investigated.
