Scientific integrations

External databases can accelerate research and data entry, but FossilCore keeps the user in control of what is accepted into a collection record.

PBDB

FossilCore PRO includes advanced Paleobiology Database workflows for taxonomy and related scientific information. Imported values should still be reviewed against the specimen and the collector's evidence before being accepted as the collection record.

WoRMS

The WoRMS integration is designed around a controlled workflow: search WoRMS, preview the full lineage, then add the selected lineage. FossilCore can also provide a verification action beside the taxonomic identification so the external result is reviewed rather than silently replacing the record.

Macrostrat

Macrostrat provides geology and mapping information used by FossilCore's PRO geology integration. As with taxonomy services, external results are supporting evidence and should be reconciled with the known locality and stratigraphic context.

Internet availability

These integrations require Internet access when querying their services. The rest of the local collection-management workflow should not depend on a continuous connection merely because an external integration exists.

Scientific responsibility: external databases can contain different taxonomic concepts, ages, geographic assumptions or incomplete records. FossilCore is a management and research-assistance tool; the collector or curator remains responsible for the final identification and collection documentation.
